Glengarry Glen Ross.
First of all, Glengarry Glen Ross is a fantastic film and well worth a watch for sheer entertainment purposes. Its a story which follows a group of real estate agents as they try to sell to plots of land to their customers at the location known as Rio Rancho.
The film takes the viewer through the journey these salesmen make from behind the scenes in their office to handling their customers face to face.
Difference Styles of Sales
There are lots of lessons to draw on from a sales point of view almost all of which are negative. I'll be discussing these issues in future posts but what I will say in this blog is that what is interesting is that whilst each salesman, uses a different style to sell to their respective customer, they still use similar strategy and tactics, but employed in a different way.
In essence, whilst the dubious nature of their ethics, motives and tactics are clearly morally wrong and I would argue, bad to employ in order to convert sales regardless of the morality argument, what underpins them all is a certain process they all use and a journey they take (or try to take) their customer through.
By watching this you will see certain philosophies of sales used in different ways and whilst their motivation, customer care and method of execution is wrong you will see how they all clearly understand the process their are involved in and certain principles used to support that.
Morals? What Morals?
Each salesman's objective is to sell, regardless of any other factors. Their morals are dubious and they try to manipulate their customers at every turn in order to get the sale and get their commission. From the famous Alec Baldwin "ABC Speech" to the way they operate with their customer, they attempt by breaking every rule in the book and manipulating their customers as much as possible in order to get the most important thing for them: their commission regardless of the customer. Wrong, wrong and wrong.
Do you want to know how to sell more effectively, ethically and with more success?
